في أول رد  رسمي تابع لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وتبريراً لطلب الإمارات لقوات امريكية لمساعدتهم في اليمن  حيث قالت قناة سكاي نيوز عربي وكما تابع " صحافة نيوز " اكدت : دخل الجيش الأميركي على خط العملية العسكرية التي بدأتها قوات التحالف العربي ضد تنظيم القاعدة في اليمن، من باب محاولة تجنب الأخطاء التي ارتكبها في العراق، الذي توسعت فيه رقعة سيطرة التنظيمات المتشددة.

ومع إطلاق التحالف العربي، الذي تقوده المملكة العربية السعودية، في 25 أبريل 2016 م  حملة عسكرية ضد تنظيم القاعدة في مدينة المكلا بمحافظة حضرموت وفرت واشنطن "دعما لوجستيا" للتحالف العربي الذي تمكن من طرد تنظيم القاعدة من المدينة في وقت قصير.

وكان قد قال الناطق باسم وزارة الدفاع الأميركية "البنتاغون"، الكابتن جيف ديفيز، إن واشنطن تقدم "دعما محدودا" للتحالف العربي داخل مدينة المكلا، شمل التخطيط والمراقبة الجوية وجمع المعلومات الاستخبارية والدعم الطبي وإعادة التزود بالوقود والاعتراض البحري.

وأكد بيان للبنتاغون الامريكي إن الجيش الأميركي أرسل "عددا قليلا" من أفراده إلى اليمن كجزء من جهد أكبر تقوم به قوات التحالف العربي التي تقاتل تنظيم القاعدة حول المدينة الساحلية الرئيسية في اليمن.

وعلى الرغم من أن تنظيم القاعدة في اليمن لا يزال يشكل مصدر تهديد للولايات المتحدة، إلا أن جهودها في محاربته اقتصرت على القصف الجوي بين الفينة والأخرى لمعاقل التنظيم بدون أي مشاركة برية..
